Getting started: Nitro vs Electric
So you’ve decided to immerse yourself in the world of RC cars. Well if you haven’t already made up your mind then your first decision is probably the most important. Are you an Electric person or a nitro person? Well hopefully by the end of this article you’ll be in a much better position to make that final choice.
Lets start with electric.
First off they’re easier, cleaner and cheaper ... what you’ve already read enough to make your decision!?! With your first purchase it’s probably better purchasing a ready to run (RTR) kit, this is a kit with everything included to get you up and running straight away ... although you do have the painful wait to recharge those batteries. The first thing you will notice and love about electric cars it that as soon as you hit the throttle the power is just there waiting to be released, this makes it extremely exhilarating but be careful not to crash the car too soon! With electric you also have the ability of driving the car around the house without filling it with fumes like you would with a nitro car.
Bring on the nitro.
Since I said electric was easier, cleaner and cheaper you’ve no doubt figured out that a nitro car is going to be the opposite. But don’t despair because with extra effort usually comes extra reward. And the number one thing that you’re certainly going to love about nitro cars is the roar of the motor, it truly is one of the main reasons that those in the nitro camp would never consider going electric. Just like electric, you can purchase nitro cars that are ready to run (RTR) but you’ll need to buy a nitro starter kit along with some nitro (and you thought gas for your car was expensive!) Be sure to buy plenty of nitro so then you can experience the other great thing about nitro cars ... that you can race your car all day without worrying about recharging any batteries.
So which to choose?
We’ll that’s up to you, both have their pros and cons and it really comes down to the type of person you are and your situation, like where you live. If you’re considering purchasing a RC car as a present then you’re probably be better off going for the saver option of getting an electric car, plus you’ll generally save yourself a couple of bucks. If it’s a purchase for yourself then just go whatever way your leaning and dont look back.
